Introduction
Reading and writing skills are important not only in school but also in life, as the ability to communicate well is essential to success. Unfortunately, these skills develop gradually, requiring an aggressive and consistent approach.
This is why we have developed our own customized reading and writing program. By teaching students how to be active, curious readers, we powerfully unlock their writing ability.
Engagement
We strongly believe engaging with text through discussion is crucial to building reading and writing proficiency. Not only are kids thinking critically about what they have just read but also practicing communicating those thoughts.
- Discussion-based learning
- Development of communication skills
- Deeper knowledge and curiosity of the world
Challenging
We find kids are not being pushed hard enough in school to improve their reading and writing skills. Our approach calls for challenging students, forcing them to improve.
- Daily homework
- Heavy emphasis on non-fiction
- Required writing based on readings
Goals of PWR:
- Improve reading comprehension and fluency
- Prepare for standardized testing
- Strengthen writing ability
- Build intellectualism
- Encourage curiosity
- Develop communication skills
